Five of the world's seven species of marine turtle come ashore to nest in Sri Lanka. They are theGreen turtle (Chelonia mydas), Olive ridley turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea), Loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta), Hawksbill ( Eretmochelys imbricata ) and Leatherback turtle (Dermochelys coriacea).
