Genetic sex determination (GSD) predominates among most vertebrate species. Nevertheless, in many reptiles and in some other taxa, sex is determined by environmental factors, such as temperature (Temperature-dependent sex determination- TSD), which act after conception (Mrosovsky and Yntema, 1980).
