- Abstract
Nine species of tuna are reported to occur in the catches of Sri Lanka’s local commercial fisheries that extend to about 30 to 40 miles from the shore, with surface fishing gears such as gillnet, pole and line and troll lines being dominant (Sivasubramaniam, 1965; Joseph, 1984). Except for skipjack and yellowfin, annual production statistics of all species are lumped together and given as ‘other blood fish’ by the Ministry of Fisheries.
