Abstract: Phytoplankton diversity and abundance changes as a function of physico-chemical parameters in aquatic ecosystem; hence these may serve as indicators of water quality. The objective of the study was to determine the diversity and distribution of phytoplankton in relation to the water quality of the Batticaloa lagoon.
