Title
A preliminary study of the batoid fishery in Puttalam lagoon
Abstract

The nutritive values of the elasmobranch muscles are known to be more or less similar to that of any other meat. Therefore, by exploiting this resource it is possible to supply the population with its nutrition demand to some extent. The present study was undertaken with a view to estimating the batoid resources in the Puttalam lagoon. Catch data were taken from the major fish landing centers around the Puttalam lagoon from January 2002 to December 2002.
